In the picture from which I drew Sam, his head was less than 1/2" tall. This provided a difficult challenge. Unfortunately, he is no longer with us, and taking new photographs was not an option. As Sam was also that "special" dog each owner seems to have, it was important to me that I capture his appearance, personality and soul accurately as I try to do with all my commissions.

After looking at my initial sketch, I thought that I had drawn his neck much too thick, but after looking at the photographs and conferring with the client, we decided that the sketch was accurate and Sam just had an unusually thick neck.
