- "I am always looking to challenge myself. I chose canvas as the
drawing surface because it was something I had never tried, nor seen,
used in combination with colored pencil. My first drawing was a
"challenge" to see if I could create a beautiful piece combining two
things I had never put together before. I was so happy with the result
and limitless room for improvement and learning, I have continued
working with this combination to date."
- "My current colored pencil art work is mostly realism or stylized
images of real subject matter. I achieve my look by lightly layering a
large number of colored pencils on the stretched canvas medium. Usually, I start at
the intended focal point of the piece. For example, on a portrait, I
prefer to start on the face. I think this is where my images come to
life. I begin layering starting with the lightest colors and working up
to the darker ones. I like to see the piece take on personality as I
work."

- "To date, my colored pencil drawings are purely colored pencil. That
is, no thinner or solvent or other pigments are added to achieve my
look. I use a thin layer of gesso on the canvas to buffer the pigment
and provide a pure white background on which to work. I only use a thin
layer as I want the texture of the canvas to show through."
- "The most satisfying part of being an artist is seeing the expressions of people who look at my work. Knowing that they truly enjoy my creations is fulfilling"
- "As an artist, I am very fortunate that I have the means to be able to
do what I love and a wonderful support system."
